Small Apartment Chronicles

Hey friends!

Today’s post is in collaboration with Pelican Self Storage and about how to save space in a small apartment. As you all know, Fabian and I live in a very small apartment in Copenhagen and we have a very limited amount of space available. And I know a lot of other people are in the same situation, so I thought I’d share my tips on how to save space in a small apartment. That said, let’s jump right into today’s post:

Tip #1 Declutter

Yep, you heard me. It’s time to throw out all that useless stuff that’s been accumulated over the years. The Japanese are onto something with this Feng Shui! Clutter is scientifically proven to affect us mentally more than we think – it leads to inability to focus and process information, and stress among other things. So in order to save space, you gotta part ways with clutter. In my opinion, decluttering is such a satisfying feeling! I enjoy it a lot. It’s like you’re cleansing your soul and removing all the baggage that tears you down.

Tip #2 Store your apartment seasonally

If you have a small apartment, space for your kitchen appliances is probably the least of your problems haha. For me personally, clothing creates the biggest challenge. We have a lot of clothes, so I usually pack our closet seasonally. What do you mean by that, Melisa? Well, what I mean is that I pack our winter clothing in suitcases and bring them down to the basement when it’s getting warmer and vice versa. For those that either don’t have a basement or have absolutely no space left in it, storage rooms like the one from Pelican Self Storage are a good way to store stuff. Apart from that, they’re actually also a pretty safe and useful storage means for when you’re moving and have stuff that needs to be stored only for a temporary time span (just saying).

Tip #3 Create multipurpose spaces

We have a one-bedroom apartment, so we don’t really have space for a bed and a couch (and make it look decent, at least haha). So we invested in a extendable sofa that we use as a bed at night and put back into place to use as a sofa over the day. I admit, our apartment could be a lot smarter in the ways we use space, but it is what it is haha. I’m still working on it!! IKEA has lots of smart ideas for saving space in a small apartment, so be sure to stop by and check it out!

And that’s it already from me today. I just wanted to give you a few quick tips on how I personally save space without taking too much of your time.

Thanks for stopping by again & blog to you soon!

Love, M.
